The word Gypsum came from the Greek word gypsies which signifies ‘chalk’ or ‘plaster’. The gypsum found in the quarries of the Montmartre region of Paris was handled and brunt gypsum was utilized for different purposes, which acquired hemihydrate gypsum the name of plaster of Paris.
